Care Guide

Care Guide

Leora pieces are made from washed linen and, where relevant, delicate knitwear and swimwear fabrics. Treated correctly, they will last for years and improve with every wash. These guidelines apply to all pieces in the collection unless the care label on your specific item says otherwise — always check the label first.

Washed linen

Washing

  • Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle or delicate cycle
  • Or hand wash in cool water — linen responds very well to hand washing
  • Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid biological detergents on darker shades
  • Wash darks and lights separately for the first few washes to prevent colour transfer
  • Do not bleach or use whitening agents
  • Do not dry clean

Drying

  • Tumble dry on low heat, or lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight
  • Remove promptly from the machine to reduce creasing
  • Linen dries quickly. Over-drying on high heat will make the fabric stiff — low and slow is better
  • Drying flat rather than hanging will help heavier pieces keep their shape

Ironing

  • Iron on a medium-high heat (linen/cotton setting) while the fabric is still slightly damp
  • A steam iron or light mist spray gives the best results
  • Iron on the reverse side to protect the fabric surface on darker pieces
  • Linen is one of the few fabrics that looks genuinely good un-ironed. The natural crease is part of its character — many of our customers never iron theirs

Storage

  • Store folded or hung in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space
  • Avoid damp or poorly ventilated areas, which can cause natural fibres to develop mildew
  • For long-term storage, fold loosely rather than tightly to avoid permanent crease lines
  • Cedar blocks or lavender sachets are a natural way to keep moths away

Crochet and resort knits

  • Hand wash only in cool water with a gentle detergent
  • Do not wring — gently press out excess water and lay flat to dry, reshaping while damp
  • Do not tumble dry or iron crochet pieces
  • Store folded, not hung — hanging can stretch the knit over time

Swimwear

  • Rinse in cold fresh water after every use, especially after swimming in the sea or a chlorinated pool
  • Hand wash with a mild detergent — machine washing will degrade the stretch fibres over time
  • Do not wring — press gently to remove water and lay flat to dry
  • Keep away from rough surfaces (pool edges, textured sun loungers) which can snag the fabric
  • Sunscreen and chlorine can fade swimwear over time — rinsing immediately after use extends the life significantly
  • Do not tumble dry or iron swimwear

A note on linen and colour

Linen is a natural fibre and all natural fibres are alive in a way synthetic fabrics are not. Colours may soften slightly over time with washing — this is normal and part of the fabric ageing well. Darker shades may lose a small amount of pigment in the first few washes. This settles. Wash darks inside out to preserve the surface colour for longer.
